July 29 - August 23, 2024 Virtual Book Tour

A Sheriff Bet Rivers Mystery

A female sheriff tries to fill her late father’s boots and be the sheriff her small Washington State mountain town needs as a deadly snow storm engulfs the town, in this dark, twisty mystery.

The world felt pure. Nature made the location pristine again, hiding the scene from prying eyes. As if no one had died there at all.

In the months since Bet Rivers solved her first murder investigation and secured the sheriff’s seat in Collier, she’s remained determined to keep her town safe. With a massive snowstorm looming, it’s more important than ever that she stays vigilant.

When Bet gets a call that a family of tourists has stumbled across a teen injured in a snowmobile accident on a mountain ridge, she braves the storm to investigate. However, once she arrives at the scene of the accident it’s clear to Bet that the teen is not injured; he’s dead. And has been for some time . . .

Investigating a possible homicide is hard enough, but with the worst snowstorm the valley has seen in years threatening the safety of her town, not to mention the integrity of her crime scenes – as they seem to be mounting up as well – Bet has to move fast to uncover the complicated truth and prove that she’s worthy of keeping her father’s badge.

MY THOUGHTS

A Cold, Cold World is book two in the Sheriff Bet River series that is written by Elena Taylor. One of the things that I love about being a book reviewer is discovering authors, the I may not have before. I am so glad to have discovered this author. I absolutely have loved this story and hope to read more from this author in the future.

Bet is the new sheriff in a small Washington town. She is worried about living up to her father and grandfather's reigns as Sheriff. However, she finds herself dealing with a horrible snowstorm, one that might be unprecedented in history. The blizzard is so bad that the roads are impassable, with no access to outside services. Thankfully, Bet has her two loyal deputies. However just because the weather is bad, does not mean crime will stop.

A young man is found dead from what appears to be a snowmobile accident - when Bet tries to make notification, the father and sister are missing. What is the connection?
I can tell you that I was along for the ride.

The book is well written, the storyline is engaging. I loved the attention to detail the author included. It made me feel like I was standing there watching the story unfold. I love this series.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Partners in Crime Tours, for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

MY THOUGHTS

Cold Vengeance is book 3 in the Ryland & St. Clair series that is written by Nancy Mehl. I have enjoyed this series so much. The author will draw you in within the first few pages and will not let you go. She will have you on the edge of your seat and you will want to forget about your massive to do list and just read.

We see River and Tony back on a case when   April, a true crime podcaster vanishes. They start to sift through the evidence left behind and they find a connection to the Salt River Strangler.  April’s podcast dealt with cold cases.

One of the things that this author does so well is her faith written into the story. This story is a reminder that God will never give up on us. Even when all is bleak. The characters are so well written and well developed. This series finale had me feeling complete. I’ve enjoyed my time with these characters.

My Thoughts

Served Cold is written by James L'Etoile. I first got to "meet" this author when he participated in a reader q&a event via zoom. I was so excited to be a part of the tour. This is book three in the Detective Nathan Parker series. I have not read the series, but I had no issues following along. This book drew me in within the first few pages and I could not read fast enough. I had to know what was happening next.

Detective Nathan Parker is on a case where a trailer full of dead undocumented migrants are found. There are some weird connections that Nathan finds. They are all in identical clothing and are connected with a compute firm that handles sensitive government information. What could have lured them into this situation? Why did the driver just abandon them on the side of the road?

The deeper Parker digs, the more then meets the eye. However, Parker is determined to find out who is behind this even if the case gets turned over to Homeland Security, Parker is not so ready to let it go. He is also bent on seeking revenge The author takes us on an adventure that will send you on twists and turns and will leave you on the edge of your seat.

The book is well written. The characters are well developed. There is so much action and suspense. Thank you to the author, publisher and Partners in Crime Tours for allowing me to read a copy of this book, all thoughts are my own.

MY THOUGHTS

Show Game is written by Steve Anderson. This is the first book that I have read by this author, and it will not be my last. The book is fast paced and a great read. I really found myself pondering --- what if someone did this for real. There are so many corrupt people out there.

A vigilante, Alex, seems to know a lot of people's deep dark secrets. They have taken matters into their own hands and abducts those who have major transgressions. Alex has a way of making those confess, and it's all done on camera for the whole world to witness. Alex is building up to a huge grand finale. Investigative reporter Owen Tanaka wants to unmask Alex. Then suddenly he finds the game hitting a little too close  to home.

I loved the premise of this book. The book drew me in within the first few pages. I found myself completely lost in the book. My husband stood there trying to get my attention several times, and I was completely lost in the story. My heart was pounding the entire time.

The book is well written. The storyline is engaging. I did not want the book to end. I hope to read more from this author in the future.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Partners in Crime Tours for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.
