Going Back in Time

Each era had its own triumphs and struggles. However, there are definitely certain qualities that are harder and harder to come by as the years go by. The 20s, 30s, and 40s were much more romantic periods. I’d like to go there and see my parents and grandparents. You had to be hard in those days. A man could be a man without being bashed for his masculinity. Families sat together around the dinner table and said grace. The Yankees were at the top of the world. Sure, World War 2 wasn’t fun, but you could look at someone and tell that person with certainty that things were going to be okay. Of course, there would be certain drawbacks to going back. I wouldn’t necessarily want to go about disrupting world history. That could have terrible consequences for the future! Now I have another idea for novel that I have to write down on my legal pad!

My Thoughts
THE RED FENCE is written  by Ed Damiano. This is a Children's book. It is recommended for ages 3-7. I read this book with my 10 and 8 year old and we enjoyed it. It is 38 pages long. The colorful illustrations and the way that it is written  reminded me a lot of Dr. Seuss books which brought me back to my childhood.
The town of Vanderloo has new residents that are moving in. They did things a little differently then the others already living there. They do things at different hours, wear different clothes and wanted their fence red instead of white.
The lesson in the book is teaching equality and individualism. It's ok to be different. It's a great lesson as we head into a new school year. I would recommend this book to all elementary schools. In the world that we live in, we need our kids to realize that it's ok to be different and nothing to be ashamed of.
I received a copy of this book through Iread Book Tours - all thoughts are my own.
