Book Review and Giveaway - Dial W for Wrangler Author: Chautona Havig On Tour with Celebrate Lit

About the Book

Book: Dial W for Wrangler

Author: Chautona Havig

Genre: Fiction / Christian / Romance / Contemporary / Comedy

Release date: May 24, 2022

♥ Can one radio show host wrangle two hearts and help them beat as one? ♥

When Wade Garrett took over the family ranch, he knew he’d need help. He can tell you anything you need to know about breeding, raising, and selling cattle. He can even wrangle a wild horse or ten every year. He just can’t wrangle numbers into proper columns and have them all add up.

Enter Ainsley Jones. New in Sweetwater, the office manager from Los Angeles is out of her element and loves every second of it—except the moments when her boss can’t speak a civil word to her.

When Wade hears about the local Dial-a-Deal host and her ad-hock romantic advice success, he starts selling off everything he can find—even sneaks a few things out of Granny’s basement—just to have an excuse to call in and get Vi’s help.

Will this impromptu decluttering jag get rid of some of his personal baggage along with twenty sleeping bags and an antique egg scale? Enough for him to admit that she’s the one thing he doesn’t want to declutter from his life or his heart?

Stay Tuned for This Radio Announcement

“Hello there. I’m Vi Willis with Dial-a-Deal on K-SWT out of Sweetwater County, Wyoming, and have I got an update for you.

“We’ve won an award! My boss is livid that it’s not for selling the most junk in the least amount of time, but hey. Can I help it if folks are tuning in from all over the country to listen in on the heart troubles of folks around here? So far, we’re credited with three engagements, six marriages, and a whopping thirty-five saved relationships! I don’t know who nominated us for that award, but thank you!

“Now look… there’s one small problem. This really is supposed to be a show for selling your old comic book collection or that garden wagon your husband just had to have until he discovered he really hates gardening. So, when you call in, can you please be sure you have an item to sell? Di, the operator who screens the calls? She’s under orders not to let any calls through without an actual item for sale.

“So declutter the junk from your closets, your garages, your barns and what have you as you try to declutter the troubles from your life, okay? Now… I’ve got Jeff Corbin on the line, let’s see what he’s got for us today….”

And that’s how it all started.

Well, sort of. You see, I spent six weeks at my mom’s house back in late 2019. And one of the things Mom did every day was listen to the Dial-a-Trade show. She never bought a thing, but she listened. And, since I was in the room, I learned a lot about that show.

Some people seemed to call a few times a week. I finally decided they were lonely and it was how they kept a connection with other people. Others were obviously selling things out of spite—ex boyfriends, girlfriends, or spouses beware!

Basically, it was a great way to get rid of stuff and a great way to figure out what was going on in the lives of folks in the area.

So, when Lisa Prysock reminded me that she’d invited me to be a part of this series, I knew immediately that my first book would most definitely include a radio host for a sale show who just can’t help but solve people’s relational problems.

My Thoughts

I don't know how Chautona does it. I have read several of her books this year and all of them are so original. She always has a way of making readers laugh. I just love her style of writing and her humor.  Dial W for Wrangler is part of the You are on the Air series. It is book 7. I have not read all the books in the series, but I had no problems following along.

Wade Garrett is a great rancher - except when it comes to the paperwork. He can raise, sell, barter, rope, etc. However, the paperwork shuffle is where he struggles. New in town, Ainsley Jones is out of her element. She moves from Los Angeles. She is not sure why her boss has a hard time speaking to her. Little does she know he is falling in love with her.

Wade finds out about the Dial a deal show - where you can call in and sell something but get relationship advice also - Vi, the radio show host had me laughing and Wade (bless his heart) was finding ANYTHING that he could sell to call in.

The author as always did an amazing job creating a humorous, easy to read story. I have lost count of how many of the author's books I have read this year but I have loved every one of them. The story is well written, the characters are realistic. Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

MY THOUGHTS

Escape Route is written by Tanya Stowe. The book starts out with some heart pounding action and does not let up. Tara Jean "TJ" Baskins loves to fly. She flies on contract for the US Border Patrol. One day while assisting in the air she witnesses a murder of two agents. She almost becomes a victim herself. She suddenly finds herself in the midst of a ARMS smuggling operation that may be run by people she grew up with.

Trace Layton decided to step out side his family name. He wanted to build his name from the ground up. His family could never understand how he could just up and leave and join the US Border patrol at entry level. His family seems complicated. He is brought back to his home town and assigned to watch over TJ and see what he can uncover about the crowd he used to run with. TJ and Trace have some bad blood and a shared history. The first thing Trace does is apologize to TJ. He seems sincere and wants to fully watch over her. TJ seems to be holding on to the past.

Now the two of them have to outrun the two gangs that are working together to smuggle ARMS back and forth. This means that they don't know who they can trust. People they have known for years and thought they were friends with suddenly seem like enemies. When I say there is a  ton of action, there is a ton of action. I did not want to put this book down. There is also a foster child, Squirt who you will love who is way to smart for his age that wants to help figure everything out.

The characters are well written, the storyline suspense filled. The author did a great job with reminding us that forgiveness allows us to begin healing. Thank you to the author, publisher and JustRead Publicity Tours for allowing me to read a copy of this story. All thoughts are my own.

Book Review and Giveaway - Dressing Up the Stars: The Story of Movie Costume Designer Edith Head Jeanne Walker Harvey Illustrated by Diana Toledano Hosted by Children's Book Review

This is a paid partnership with Children's book Review and Jeanne Walker Harvey -- All thoughts are my own

 ABOUT THE BOOK

Dressing Up the Stars: The Story of Movie Costume Designer Edith Head

Written by Jeanne Walker Harvey

Illustrated by Diana Toledano

Ages 3-8 | 40 Pages

Publisher: Beach Lane Books | ISBN-13: 9781534451056

About the Book: Discover the true story of how a shy miner’s daughter became one of the most legendary costume designers in Hollywood in this inspiring nonfiction picture book biography.

As a child in the small mining town of Searchlight, Nevada, Edith Head had few friends and spent most of her time dressing up her toys and pets and even wild animals using fabric scraps. She always knew she wanted to move somewhere full of people and excitement. She set her sights on Hollywood and talked her way into a job sketching costumes for a movie studio.

Did she know how to draw or sew costumes? No. But that didn’t stop her!

Edith taught herself and tirelessly worked her way up until she was dressing some of the biggest stars of the day, from Audrey Hepburn to Grace Kelly to Ginger Rogers. She became the first woman to head a major Hollywood movie studio costume department and went on to win eight Academy Awards for best costume design—and she defined the style of an era.

MY THOUGHTS

This was a super cute, beautifully illustrated, inspirational children's book. This is a story of a girl never giving up her dreams. Despite several set backs and failures. I did little research after my kids and I read this book - and I realized that I had heard and seen her name before. After going to school to become a teacher, her true passion was to work in movies. She landed a job in the costume department - she goes on and won 8 Oscars for her work.

I enjoyed learning about Ms. Head. The book is well written, the story is beautifully illustrated. This is perfect for ages 3-8. It's a great inspirational story about keeping your eye on your dreams. Thank you to the author, publisher and Children's book Review for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.
