Genre: Christian Contemporary Women’s Fiction

If it ain’t broke, why’s she so intent on fixing it?

Tessa Booker hates romance.

For 25 years, Tessa Booker has insisted that romance is something Hollywood cooked up to sell books and movies. Yes, she knows the word existed before movies. She doesn’t care. That’s her story, and she’s sticking to it.

So, when Ross gets a gentle nudge from Mallory Barrows to look into what Tessa’s doing every day while he’s at work, he discovers a romance in the works – one that sounds a little too “ripped from the pages of his life”!

Who is this woman, and what has she done with his wife?

Armed with advice from 101 Ways to Romance Your Wife and a copy of the manuscript he printed while she was napping, he’s determined to figure out what’s up with his wife…and if maybe a little romance wouldn’t be a good thing, after all.

In a twist of the “on the rocks trope”, this book introduces the next island in the Independence Islands series featuring five islands, six authors, and a boatload of happily ever afters.

The Independence Islands Series – Beach listens aren’t just for summer, anymore!

My Thoughts

Bookers on the Rocks is written by Chautona Havig and narrated by Christa DelSorbo. This book is part of the Independence Island series. If you have not been reading this series, you are missing out. I have been fortunate enough to read every book so far in the series. They are all written by a variety of authors. They are all stand alone books, however all tied together by the Independence Island theme. Chautona is an author that writes such a wide variety of stories. I have been blessed to have been able to read her last several books, which seem to be at least 1 a month. Each book is so unique. This book, is in my top 5 of Chautona's books.

In this book we see Tessa and Ross Booker. They have been married over 20 years. They currently reside on Elnora Island. Since they have been married for so long, their lives have become very routine. It seems to be the same day in and day out coming and goings. I like how the author presented a story of an older married couple. They were already in love. They unfortunately lead very separate lives. If she is at home - Ross is at work. Life suddenly changes for them when Tessa is in an accident. This forces the Bookers to go through an evolution that is needed.Chautona has written as usual unique fun characters. Her romance is not overly sappy. Her storylines will always keep you intrigued. I enjoyed this story.

Let’s talk about the narration of Christa DelSorbo. The above mentions her narration as: “The voice of a friend.” That is a perfect example of what her voice sounds like. This is the third audiobook that I have been able to listen to that she has narrated. I listened to this in the car on the way back and forth to work. I found myself not wanting to get out of the car and sit and listen to her calming voice.

Christa’s voice narrates flawlessly and effortlessly. She has the gift of speech. I love that she has narrated three (so far) of Chautona’s books. She really brings the story to life.
