This is book four in the Coroner's Daughter series. I have not read the whole series, but I had no trouble following along. Book three ends on a cliff hanger. Jeremiah--the eleven year-old son of her best friend, Jo--goes missing on the frigid shores of Lake Michigan. While Dr. Emily Hartford has a life and boyfriend in the Windy City, she cannot escape the city where her father was the County Coroner for so long.  Jeremiah turns up a few days later, alive and unharmed. However, something is not right when it comes to his account for the abuduction.  Emily worries about Jo's unraveling marriage. Jeremiah's recovery, it turns out, is not the end of their terrifying tale. I love when everyone is a suspect, and you can trust no-one.  This book is told in multiple points of view, but the author has woven it together so seamlessly. One of the things that I love about this author, is her writing. The suspense, tension and mysteries ooze off the pages. My heart would pound while reading, and I could not wait to figure out what would happen next. The book is well written.
