It has great colorful maps at the end of the book. Sometimes the KJV can be hard to break down, but the foot notes and breakdowns helped me to understand it.

October is National Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month! "Maverick and Me" Childrens book review by Katherine Schwarzenegger

October is National Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month! "Maverick and Me" Childrens book review by Katherine Schwarzenegger

I love dogs. I have always had dogs growing up. Dogs are truly man's best friend.

Previously we owned a German Shephard named King. King was found in an abandoned home with other dogs and taken in by my sister's landlord. We loved King! He was such a great guard dog.

He always knew when we were not feeling well. He would not leave your side.

When I saw the opportunity to participate in a book tour for "Maverick and Me" by Katherine Schwarzenegger I knew that it would be a book that my kids and I would love. I am always on the look out for new books for my boys. We love to read.

We are a strong Adopt don't shop family.
Did you know that October is National Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month?

Here is a summary of what this sweet book is about:

Dog lover and animal advocate Katherine Schwarzenegger draws from her own experience with fostering and adopting dogs to create a picture book that introduces children to the concept of “adopt, don’t shop.” In the heartwarming story of Maverick and Me, Maverick is rescued by a kind-hearted stranger after being dumped on the side of the road. The little puppy’s luck takes a turn for the better when young Scarlett meets him at an adoption event. Scarlett is so moved by Maverick’s story that she and her mother decide to give him the forever home he is looking for. Each year, millions of dogs find themselves in shelters and with animal rescues through no fault of their own. Maverick will help teach children about these dogs and empower even young readers to advocate for shelter pup

years. She has been illustrating children’s books since 2001, including On Christmas Day by Margaret

Wise Brown and My Mama & Me by Crystal Bowman & Teri McKinley. She lives in the Kansas City area with her husband.

My Thoughts:

What an adorable, heartwarming, tug at the heart strings story! My 6 year old and I read this together. He was able to read with out difficulty and followed along when we read it a second time. He loved the little dog that found by himself. My 6 year old was sad when he learned that Maverick did not have a family at first - and as we traveled through the book he was happy that Maverick grew strong. This is a well written and beautifully illustrated book. Highly recomended for dog lovers and children.

Book Review! Bringing Maggie Home -- by Kim Vogel Sawyer

ABOUT THE BOOK
Bringing Maggie Home
Bringing Maggie Home(WaterBrook, September 2017)
Decades of loss, an unsolved mystery, and a rift spanning three generations
Hazel DeFord is a woman haunted by her past. While berry picking in a blackberry thicket in 1943, ten-year old Hazel momentarily turns her back on her three-year old sister Maggie and the young girl disappears.
Almost seventy years later, the mystery remains unsolved and the secret guilt Hazel carries has alienated her from her daughter Diane, who can’t understand her mother’s overprotectiveness and near paranoia. While Diane resents her mother’s inexplicable eccentricities, her daughter Meghan—a cold case agent—cherishes her grandmother’s lavish attention and affection.
When a traffic accident forces Meghan to take a six-week leave-of-absence to recover, all three generations of DeFord women find themselves unexpectedly under the same roof. Meghan knows she will have to act as a mediator between the two headstrong and contentious women. But when they uncover Hazel’s painful secret, will Meghan also be able to use her investigative prowess to solve the family mystery and help both women recover all that’s been lost?

My Thoughts:
I love this author. I have read almost every book she has written. She was among the first of the Christian Authors that I discovered when I switched genres. It was interesting to see the switch in gears then what Ms. Vogel Sawyer writes - but it seems to be a smooth transition. Her books have a way of unfolding right before your eyes. The characters are well developed, well written and tangible. I enjoyed going on this journey that the author took me on.

About the Author

Rachel Dylan was a litigator in one of the nation’s most elite law firms for over eight years and now works as an attorney at one of the Big Three automobile manufacturers. Q & A with Rachel Dylan

  1. The Atlanta Justice series is centered around strong, female lawyers who take on high-stakes cases. What made you want to write their stories?I’d have to say it’s personal! Having been an attorney for eleven years now, I love being able to pour parts of myself into the books. My everyday life as a lawyer isn’t that exciting and is definitely not as dangerous! But I’m able to draw on what I’ve lived through to bring life and authenticity to these characters.
  1. What type of research did you do for Deadly Proof? One of the great things about writing books related to my career is that I know lawyers who practice all different types of law. Deadly Proof focuses on Kate Sullivan, who is a plaintiff’s attorney taking on a big pharmaceutical company. I don’t do this specific type of plaintiff’s work, but I know lawyers who do, and I was able to talk with them. Also, I was able to relate to my characters on the defense side because I’ve done that work for years. It was really fun to write the perspectives of characters on both sides of the case.
  1. Is there a reason you chose Atlanta for this series?Yes! I’m from Georgia and lived in Atlanta, practicing law at a large law firm, for eight years. I wanted to pick a setting I was intimately familiar with to give readers an authentic Atlanta experience—sweet tea and all.
  1. Where do you think Kate’s passion for her work comes from?Kate truly believes that her life’s work is to help those who have been wronged. I believe a lot of her passion stems from her strong faith that has developed over the years. She’s not a lawyer to make big bucks but to change people’s lives for the better.
  1. What is the next book in the Atlanta Justice series about?Book two is about Kate’s friend Sophie Dawson, who we meet in Deadly Proof. Sophie is an Atlanta prosecutor. This story is exciting because it involves a completely different type of legal case than Deadly Proof. But I promise things get just as dangerous!

MY THOUGHTS:

WOW. That was my final thoughts after finishing reading this book. I have been reading more and more legal suspense books - but this one kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. Well written characters, great story line, twists and turns, and so much more. I loved the main character of this book.

I receievd a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit blogging program - all opinions are my own.

Guest Post from Tanya Eavenson

I’d like to thank Celebrate Lit for featuring my first novella in my Gaining Love Series, To Gain a Mommy, for this tour. I’m looking forward to visiting with you along the way!
Recently I was asked to share what inspired me to write To Gain a Mommy. Believe it or not, my inspiration came from a prayer.
Last year my employer offered me a great promotion, but the catch was I’d have little time to spend with my family. So I prayed, asking God for direction for my family, my job, and my writing.
God knows us so well. He knew I had a desire to work with other authors and to write my first novella. He also knew that without a push, I wouldn’t do it.
It all began with a simple post on my Facebook timeline. Another writer posted that she had messaged me but wanted to let me know since FB has a couple of message boxes (I had no idea!). I clicked on my messages, and there it was—the extra message box, filled. As I read through the messages, I found one asking if I’d be interested in joining a novella boxed set. Right away I knew God had answered my prayer.
Needless to say, I didn’t take the position at work and joined the boxed set. Since then, To Gain a Mommy has become an international bestseller and has been a finalist in two contests. My Gaining Love series continues to grow, with the third novella, To Gain a Bodyguard, releasing in time for Christmas. Isn’t God good!
The Lord tells us to trust in Him and that if we do, He will direct our paths. It still amazes me how the Lord works behind the scenes in our lives to give us hope and a future.
Yes, God gives us hope. He gives us a future. This is why I named my heroine in To Gain a Mommy Hope. Romans 5:5 says, “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (NKJV). Although my heroine can’t see her future or what it might hold, she is reminded that God will not disappoint.
The Lord reminds us of the same in our own lives.

My Thoughts:
This is a super sweet book that kept me smiling throughout the whole book. The characters (especially the kids) are very well written. You can get a real sense of who they are by the way they are written. This book covers betrayel and second chances. It was a great reminder of the gift of Grace that God gives us. This was a quick and enjoyable read. If you are looking for a sweet love story, this is your book.
