More from Urcelia

Many years ago God gave me a prophetic scripture through which He named me Hephzibah (meaning ‘My delight is in her’). Some time after that, life happened and for a long while I felt unworthy of that name.  But, God showed me grace in this area for the nearly ten years that followed and, although I never aspired to be a writer, I wrote my first ever book on a bucket list whim in December 2017. Somehow it evolved into a series, but, while writing the fifth book in my Alex Hunt adventure thriller series, I felt the Holy Spirit nudging and directing me into using my God-given talent for enhancing His Kingdom instead.  I obeyed and wrote the final book in that series, The Caiaphas Code, as my statement of faith before switching to writing Christian mystery and suspense instead.  Two days later, the idea for Every Good Gift was born and the day I finished writing the last sentence of this book, I heard the Lord whisper in my ear, Hephzibah, Hephzibah, over and over.  That has been the most noteworthy highlight of my short career so far: knowing that I have pleased God.

My heart and soul went into writing Jacob’s Well. I have three teenage sons, and raising them in a world filled with all kinds of temptation is not easy. They have to cope with so much more than we had to as kids: social media bullying, peer pressure to fit into a pretentious world that seems to intensify overnight, the lure of riches through online gaming or videos instead of education, to name but a few. But through the years, the pull of narcotics has remained the primary evil that threatens to destroy our children. I am blessed to have boys who aren’t scared to share their struggles with us and upon hearing a few of the stories about kids in their schools and our town, one of the main characters in Jacob’s Well was born. On the flip side, I have a mother’s heart and imagining what it would be like to watch your child go down the wrong path added in an entirely different element to the story, especially if that mother was a Christian. The spiritual and emotional battles that would rage within, the helplessness and desperation that come with wanting to do whatever it takes to save your son, the pride within your church community––these are all human responses. And that is how Mary-Jean Foley’s character was born.

Throw in a lawman and a villain in a coastal town where everyone has a secret and Jacob’s Well spilled out onto the pages!

My Thoughts

Jacob’s Well is written by Urcelia Teixeira. This is book one in the Angus Reid Series. I love how this author writes. She draws you in immediately and doesn’t let go. The characters are well written and the storyline is packed full of suspense.

Sheriff Angus Reid settles into Weyport, it doesn’t take him long to discover just how corrupt his new town is. He soon realizes that everyone has secrets and it could cost someone their life.

Jacob has seen how much his younger brothers health has affected his mom and step dad. Drowning in medical debt he wants to help. However he gets caught up in some things that he finds out he’s soon over his head. His mother will risk everything to save her son.

Oh the suspense. So much of it. I could not turn pages fast enough.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book.  All thoughts are my own.

My Thoughts

Oh. My. Goodness. Hunted at Christmas may be Dana R. Lynn's best book yet. This is book 17 in the Amish Country Justice series. This is Isaiah Bender's story. He left the Amish when he was a teen and broke all ties with his family. We have seen the other Bender brother's stories in the series - but Isaiah's reminded me of the prodigal son. Isaiah is a bounty hunter -he has been contracted to bring in a woman who is wanted for larceny and other crimes. Isaiah tracks Addison and arrives the same time that a hit man does. Not only is there a warrant out for her, but there is also a price on her head.

Addison Johnson moved far away from her previous life. She changed her name. She is a single mom after her husband was killed. Her son Ollie, has diabetes and she will do anything to protect her son. She had been the victim of a stalker. She is surprised when she finds out that there is a bounty hunter and a hitman on her tail.

After meeting Addison, Isaiah realizes quickly that someone has set her up. But he has to prove her innocence. Before it's too late. Will he keep her safe? Can he let go of the embarrassment and guilt he feels for his past?

This was such an amazing book. I am so glad that we got to see Isaiah's story unfold. This book can be read as a stand alone. I just adore the Bender Family.
Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

Will they find a way to get over their dread, so they can finally rest their heads?

My Thoughts

Grandma’s House is Haunted Written by Stephen G. Bowling and is illustrated by Vitali Dudarenka.
This was such a fun book to read. We see a fun sleepover at Grandma's. They start off with some homemade baked goods, they laugh, they play games and have so much fun. However, then nighttime falls. Grandma's house then comes alive! They try and tell their grandma how scared they are - and Grandma tells them that it's their imagination.

This book is so amazingly written and illustrated. I loved the details on every page. I love that the illustrations bring the author's words to life. My kids and I had a good time reading this book. It encourages prediction and reptation in reading.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Children's Book Review for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.
