Christmas in the Crosshairs (Love Inspired Suspense)
by Deena Alexander

I really enjoyed reading this Love Inspired Suspense book! Jaelyn and Adam were great main characters, and even though they had been through horrible things, I loved getting to see them find happiness. The epilogue was a fantastic ending! Overall, I would definitely recommend this romance novel!

MY THOUGHTS

Christmas in the Crosshairs is written by Deena Alexander. One of the things that you can always count on from this author is her books to be packed with so much action and suspense. Make sure that you carve time out to sit and read. I was drawn into this book immediately.

Jaelyn Reed has just found out she has a sister. She had not had time to reach out and then her sister shows up in the ER where she works beaten and bloodied. Jaelyn has had a rough life. Her parents died in a car accident and while she was trying to grieve, her fiance then cheated on her. She tries to keep herself busy between the hospital and a volunteer fire fighter. She is shocked when she sees Maya Barlowe roll in. She is even more shocked when she finds out that Maya’s husband may be a hired assassin trying to close off loose ends.

Adam Spencer is a defense attorney. His wife and unborn child were murdered, he’s been determined to find the people behind it and bring them to justice. He has been following Maya for several reasons. He thinks she knows something and is on the run from her husband.

When he meets Jaelyn - he advises her that she is now in danger. He feels that he is the only way to keep her safe is to protect her. When they go to the bed and breakfast where Maya has been staying, they are surprised to find an infant hidden away.

Adam and Jaelyn both have some issues from their past they need to work through. They need to trust each other in order to stay alive. They have to be able to work together to stay alive and keep the baby safe.

The author takes you on a suspenseful journey full of action and twists and turns.

The characters are well written, and the storyline intriguing. Thank you to the author, publisher and Great Escapes Book Tours for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

Interview with the Author

How long have you been writing or when did you

start?

I started writing in 1993. It took my ten years of learning, writing and submitting before I finally was offered a publishing contract. I’ve been writing ever since.

What is the most difficult part of your writing process?

The middle of the book is the most difficult for me. The first three chapters and the last five or so go swiftly but the in-between chapters take more time, focus and angst as I make sure I’m hitting the right beats and not letting things drag.

What comes first for you — the plot or the characters — and why?

Each book is different. Sometimes the plot will come to me first and then I look for characters that will be challenged by the plot. Sometimes the characters will start talking to me, telling me their story and I look for a plot to challenge them with.

What advice would you give to a writer working on their first book?

The advice I would give is to learn the craft, write to the end and not worry about perfection. You can revise and polish once the story is done. And be persistent in your pursuit of story.

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

I’ve written over sixty books, most for Harlequin’s Love Inspired line, but I’ve written for Tule Publishing and Howard Books as well. My favorite book is whichever book I’m working on at any given moment. That book is also my least favorite book until I finish it. LOL

If you could meet your characters, what would you say to them?

I’d say Thank You for providing me house of entertainment, joy and for letting me tell their stories.

How long did it take you to write this book?

Undercover Christmas Escape took roughly four months to write but I did take some time off in that time period for a conference. I also don’t write on the weekends unless I’m behind and I take time every day to play with my dog, clean house or visit with friends. I firmly believe in work/life balance.

My Thoughts

Undercover Christmas Escape is written by Terri Reed. Ms. Reed is an author that I will always have in my TBR list. Her books always have so much heart pounding action and suspense, that does not let up throughout the entire book. This is the third book in the U.S. Marshals Series. They can all be read as stand alone stories. The other books in the series are: Forced to Flee and Forced to Hide.

DEA agent Duncan O’Brien and deputy US marshal Sera Morales had a simple assignment. They were to infiltrate an office Christmas party, gather evidence and take down a drug cartel. However their undercover disguises, Santa and Mrs. Claus  do not work out the way that they plan. They suddenly find themselves fighting to survive. Sera is kidnapped - but manages to get away. Sera and Duncan need to find the individuals responsible so they can make sure the case does not fall through the cracks.

This author has written some amazing characters. They have unique banter and chemistry - but it works. I love unique characters. The author has thrown in so much action and suspense that you will not want to put this one down.

Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

About the Author

Tamara G. Cooper is a Texas-based author who finds inspiration in the simple things in life: hiking, camping, fishing, and long walks with her family that end in a picnic. She lives in a small town in East Texas with her husband, her youngest of five sons, and four dogs. Tamara loves writing suspense/mystery stories with just a touch of romance.

More from Tamara

I’m an East Texan, through and through. You should hear me talk! There is no mistaking that I’m from Texas. So, one day, I was wondering: what would it be like if a New Yorker moved to East Texas? Better yet, let’s make him a billionaire New Yorker who wants nothing to do with “rednecks” but is forced to move to Texas. What would motivate him to move there, especially when he’s made it very clear that he wants nothing to do with Texas or Texans?

Running for his life would work. Suddenly, he needs a place to hide. The people after him know of his other homes and have them staked out. So, where could he go? His great-aunt Dottie dies and wills her 6,000-acre estate in East Texas to him. Perfect! It sets him up nicely where he doesn’t want to be. And to add icing to this Texas cake? His first love at fourteen recently moved back to the area where he’d met her on one of his family’s rare visits with Aunt Dottie.

But life doesn’t settle down for him. Of course, it doesn’t, right?

And that’s how this book came about. I love Aaron. Every day, I couldn’t wait to get back to him and his story. He has so much to give and doesn’t even know it. As one of the “walking wounded,” he’s going to discover what really matters in life, but it’s not going to be easy for him.

One thing that’s somewhat different about me as a writer is that I don’t outline my books. I sit at my computer and let the characters tell me their stories. Sounds a little weird, doesn’t it? But it works for me. They take me in all kinds of directions! When the first draft is finished, I consider it my “outline.” Now, the fun begins with editing!

I love writing. I love storytelling. “Revenge” is one of my favorite stories and, yes, I fell a little bit in love with Aaron. I hope you do, too.

My Thoughts

Revenge: The Winslows of Texas is written by Tamara. G. Cooper. This is a book that you will want to make sure that you have a chunk of time to read. Once I started, the book drew me in immediately. The characters are well written and the storyline is intriguing.

Aaron, is having a hard time dealing with the death of his partner, Claire. He feels guilty in the aftermath. Aaron is not convinced that it is an accident. When he starts to see accidents and other "coincidences" he realizes that he may be a target. He is determined to show the police that it was not an accident, but a cold blooded murder.

This book threw me through so many twists and turns. When I thought I had everything figured out - boom the author had me second guessing myself. Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

Aaron, a complex and multifaceted protagonist grappling with the aftermath of his partner Claire's tragic demise. Haunted by a nagging suspicion that Claire was being stalked—a suspicion he failed to act upon due to her denial—Aaron finds himself plagued by profound remorse over his choices. The weight of his grief is further compounded by incessant media scrutiny and relentless accusations levied against him in connection with Claire's untimely passin

My Thoughts - Welcome to The Cornish Country Hospital Written by Jo Bartlett

Welcome to The Cornish Country Hospital

A new start…

When Danni Carter moves to Cornwall from London, she hopes it will be the fresh start she so desperately needs. She’s nervous, but hopefully the change of scene will help her to finally forget her feelings for Lucas Newman, a man she can never be with, because he’s already engaged to Danni’s best friend, Esther.

An Impossible Dilemma…

But when Lucas and Esther decide to follow Danni to Cornwall, and both announce they will be working with her at the new St Piran’s hospital, Danni is thrown into turmoil again. She can’t lose Esther, but being near Lucas is getting harder to deal with. Will she have to give up her new life before it’s even started?

A chance to start again?

Throwing herself into work, Danni finds herself drawn to new patient, Connie Berrycloth, a woman Danni knows has dark secrets of her own. Secrets that are about to be revealed….

As the two women form a friendship, Danni begins to realise that letting go of her dreams might be the only way of holding on to the people she loves.

MY THOUGHTS
Welcome to the Cornish Country Hospital is written by Jo Bartlett. This is the first book that I have read by this author, and it will not be my last. While I am from the US - I appreciated all the detail that the author put in of Cornish coast of Port Kara. I felt with her descriptions I was watching everything unfold in front of me.

Danni, is a doctor consultant in the A&E department. She has been in love with her best friends fiance for as long as she can remember. So much so, that she moves from London and accepts a job at tiny Cornish Country Hospital. She settles into her new life thinking that she will finally be free of her thoughts of Lucas. After all, Esther is more like a sister to her.

However, Lucas and Esther decide to also move to the country side. Danni is not happy about this. She throws herself into her work, and during a major catastrophe she meets Connie. Connie has secrets of her own. Danni is drawn to Connie, and she helps her work through some past trauma, experiences and they form a friendship.

Things I loved about this book: The characters, they are funny and real feeling. The whole staff at the hospital seems to have their secrets and I loved how deeply involved in their lives I was able to get. I also loved the setting. As stated above the author has done a great job with her descriptions.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Rachel's Random Resources for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoguhts are my own.
