Jeff loves children's literature , “One Drop of Kindness” is Jeff's first published children's book. It's Me reads like a fun graphic novel, but it is entirely non fiction. He's always looked at education from a different lens: from someone who hated and struggled with school. Jeff vows to always do his best to help increase opportunities for all students to feel heard, noticed, celebrated, challenged and safe. Jeff works hard to push back against the old model of “Industrialized Education” and fight compliance. There is not a day that goes by that he is not looking ahead to improve teacher pedagogy, student engagement and digital access for all. When will it Change?
Can you help me make Kindness the Norm?
Right now, here we are. In the moment. Doing. Moving. Breathing. Living our life.
And then it happens. Something we don’t want, but now, we have come to expect.
A tragedy. A loss. An event that shakes our country.
Lives are disrupted, lost and memorialized. We wonder why. What happened? What could
have gone wrong? When will things change and improve?
We Wake up - and it hits us. The Anger. The Rage. The Pain. The Fear. The Anguish.
And The Hate. The pure, ugly HATE.
When will it end? Why can’t we find Kindness, Compassion, Love, Empathy and Togetherness?
It seems so simple; we teach our Preschool and Elementary students to be kind, use
nice words, actions and gestures. “Think of others first” we say to them;
because we know that they are young, malleable, impressionable and sweet. Hoping it
will stick to them like glue. At least for the 7 hours they are at school, right?
We KNOW they can do better than we did.
We KNOW they can help us to improve our world.
We KNOW they are the only ones we can count on to be what our society isn't.
But, for some reason, it isn’t working. It is broken, and so are we.
Why can’t we get this right? The hatred. The fury. The disgust. The judgement. The racism.
The ignorance.
The inability to reflect, stop and think.
Not a day goes by in this amazing country that we don’t relive Normandy, Vietnam,
Selma, 9/11, Holocaust, Columbine, Boston Marathon Bombings. And now, January 6, 2021 - need I list more?
No. We know them all, or at least most of them.
They just repeat a common, and horrific theme; Racism, White Supremacy, Hatred, War, Mental Illness, Misunderstandings, Ignorance and Lack of Empathy and Understanding.
It really can begin with One Drop of Kindness. Let’s be intent on “seeing” each other. Learn to listen, understand, accept, and embrace. Take pride in your uniqueness, but don’t smother someone else’s.
Let’s do this. Share a drop of kindness today, and we can be better for it.
