About the Author

Sherri Wilson Johnson is a Christian romantic suspense author and lover of all things book related. She’s always been a sucker for a good love story—whether it’s in real life or fiction (both historical and contemporary). Completing her first novel at the age of eighteen, and later burning the only copy in the fireplace, she continued learning the craft of writing and now writes Contemporary Romantic Suspense and Historical Romance with a splash of suspense and/or mystery. When not writing, she’s usually assisting other publishing professionals or helping authors realize their dreams of becoming published. Sherri and her husband are empty-nesters and live in Georgia with their two dogs. She loves spending time with family, vacationing at the beach, curling up with a good book or working on her current work-in-progress. She dreams of a second home on some beach somewhere someday, where she can plot and write romantically suspenseful novels.

More from Sherri

The idea for Offshore Ambush came from my annual visits to the Gulf Shores and Fort Morgan, Alabama area. Just like how the idea for Desolate Escape (book one in my Jeopardized Reunions series) came about while sitting on the deserted beach at the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge where I imagined someone discovering a dead body on the beach, discovering the oil and gas platforms out in the Gulf but not knowing what they were sparked my creative juices. So I began researching what these were while eating dinner on the screened-in porch that viewed Mobile Bay where we were staying (across the street from the beach). When I discovered that they were drilling platforms, my husband and I started brainstorming. Yes, Dan is one of my biggest brainstorming resources, for lack of a better word. He always titles my books for me, always listens daily as I fill him in on what I’ve written, and never fails to cheer me on when I’m dreaming up the next book or series idea.

I had planned to end the series (for now) with one final book that reached beyond what I’d written before. Since this series has been set on Mobile Bay and the beaches surrounding the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge plus some of the rivers that flow into the bay, I felt like it would only be fitting to venture out into the ocean. So the first half is set on the Lapis Lazuli oil platform, then the rest is set in Gulf Shores.

Now for an interesting story about how I named the Lapis Lazuli…

I’ve been reading the Bible all the way through this year, this time in chronological order. Because I’m a slow reader, I use a Bible app and let the British narrator read it to me. I follow along in my Bible and make notes or underline verses that touch me. Well, in at least two handfuls of places in the Old Testament the stone lapis lazuli is mentioned, and every time the British narrator pronounced it, it made me smile. I don’t know why, but it did. So when I did a search on what it was and found out that it was this gorgeous deep blue (which happens to be one of my favorite colors), I suddenly felt compelled to name the oil platform the Lapis Lazuli.

Exodus 24 talks about Moses and Aaron and the elders going up the mountain where they saw the God of Israel. Verse 10 says: “Under his feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky.” Can’t you just see it?!

It’s mentioned that the priestly garments had lapis lazuli in the breastpiece. And in Song of Songs chapter five, the woman describes her beloved as this:

His arms are rods of gold
set with topaz.
His body is like polished ivory
decorated with lapis lazuli.

Okay, so now I’m in the mood for a good love story. How about you? šŸ˜‰

Offshore Ambush is another one of my second chance romantic suspense stories that reminds me of how God is the God of second chances, forgiveness, and unconditional love. I hope you will find this story to be as inspiring to read—and yet thrilling due to all the danger our hero and heroine find themselves in—as I did while writing it.

My Thoughts

Offshore Ambush is written by Sherri Wilson Johnson. This book is part of the Jeopardized Reunion series. While this is part of a series, they all can be read as stand alone stories. I love this author. She has the ability to draw you in within the first few paragraphs. She does such a wonderful job with creating a realistic backdrop. She has done careful research that I felt like I could go on an oil rig and navigate through it.

Gretchen Overton is a death investigator. She has been on desk duty since getting a concussion a few weeks back. However, her brother, is murdered and she is sent to retrieve his body off the rig. Suddenly evidence goes missing and it becomes clear that they don't want the truth to come out.

This book is packed full of action, suspense and so many twists and turns. The characters are well developed. The storyline is intriguing. If you like Christian action and suspense, this is the story for you.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book -- all thoughts are my own.

When a massive earthquake levels the region, secrets and unknown dangers are exposed…

When her meeting with a mysterious client is ambushed, Stella witnesses the man being gunned down by a sniper and becomes a target herself. With the threat of aftershocks triggering landslides and floods, the new mom has no choice but to run to save her baby girl—even if it means teaming up with the man who has no idea he fathered her child.

More from Dana

I won’t ever forget October 17th, 1989. I was finished with my student teaching duties, chatting with my mother while we watched the World Series. It was an epic matchup of two Bay Area teams. As we watched, the floor lurched and the entire house began to rattle and pitch. We ran outside and watched the street undulate like ocean waves. We’d later come to learn it was a 6.9 earthquake on the Loma Prieta fault. The shaking only lasted 20 seconds but 63 people were killed, 3,757 were reported injured and 12,053 displaced. The damage estimates reached as high as $10 billion, with 18,306 houses leveled. Approximately 2,575 businesses were impacted and 147 were destroyed. The part I will remember most was the collapse of a section of the freeway in Oakland which trapped people in the pancaked structure. I remember watching the close space rescue teams work night and day to find survivors.

Little did I know that memorable event would someday lead to a book! This novel combines the iconic California setting of Yosemite and the big fear buried deep in every California’s mind…the big one, the massive earthquake we know will be coming someday. Of course you know there will be a happy ending in the novel, but I hope you will feel the edge of your seat suspense that keeps you turning pages. God bless you, dear readers!

Trapped in Yosemite is written by Dana Mentink. This is a full size Love Inspired Suspense Trade book. I always try and read everything that Ms. Mentink releases, as she is one of my go to authors. I really enjoyed getting to read a longer story by her. I felt that we got to know the characters on a deeper level, and you get to see more of their back stories. In true Mentink fashion the book starts off with heart pounding suspense, and continues through the whole story.

Stella is an arborist. She drives to meet a potential client and she is excited about building her business. However when she meets with them, something feels off. Just as the potential client is handing her an envelope, he is shot. Stella tries to back track and get out of there before she becomes the next victim. As she is feeling, an earthquake hits and she finds herself falling into the water. The one person she never thought she would see again is the one that rescues her. Von, who is her ex fiancĆ©, is very surprised to come across Stella like this. He brings her back to the camp he is helping to manage.

Von is a K9 handler and wants to keep Stella safe. He knows she is holding onto something. He gets frustrated that she will not talk to him about it - but in reality, there are things that he is holding back. Both of their stubbornness can potentially get in the way of trying to stay alive. Stella has no idea why someone would want her dead.

The author did a great job at drawing you into the story within the first few pages. I loved the complexity of the characters. I loved reading about Yosemite. Suspenseful story line, hidden baby, and Yosemite. What more can you ask for?

My Thoughts - The Girl in the Dark:(Blake and Byron Thrillers Book 2) by Zoƫ Sharp

About the Book

Book: The Girl in the Dark (Blake and Byron Thriller #2)

Author: ZoĆ« Sharp

Genre: Thriller and Suspense

Release Date: March 22, 2024

The woman falls. Her body begins to shake. Her brown eyes turn upwards, showing a mix of panic and desperate hope. She takes a deep breath and says one word: 'Blake.' Then her eyes close, her face pales, and she goes still forever…

The victim:
Shannon, a woman who went out of her way to help the lost and hopeless, left abandoned to die by the side of the road. Where was she in those last few days before her death, and why was she so frightened?

The avenger:
Blake Claremont, who knows only too well how it feels to be alone on the streets of a big city. Blake survived, thanks to Shannon. She’s determined to find out who killed her friend, and why.

Before she died, Shannon was searching for answers. She knew that people were going missing… never to be seen again. Now, with the help of
Detective John Byron, Blake must take up Shannon’s investigation. She knows these streets and the predators who walk in the darkness. She will follow in Shannon’s footsteps until she finds her target: the ruthless men and women who steal people’s lives and will do anything to protect their secrets.

And then, they will pay.

Prepare to be gripped by this unputdownable crime thriller, the second in the brilliant new series from the bestselling author of the Charlie Fox books. Fans of Karin Slaughter, Kendra Elliot and Cara Hunter won’t be able to put this down.

About the Author

Zoƫ Sharp

Zoƫ Sharp spent most of her formative years living aboard a catamaran on the northwest coast of England. She opted out of mainstream education at the age of twelve and wrote her first novel at fifteen. She became a freelance photojournalist in 1988 and started writing her Charlie Fox crime thriller series after receiving death-threats in the course of her work.

The Girl in the Dark is book two in the Blake and Byron Thrillers. The series is written by ZoĆ« Sharp. This is the first book that I have read by this author, and it will not be my last. Since I did not read the first book, I did not have any issues following along. The book drew me in within the first few pages and is packed full of action and suspense.

Blake has come from some sad circumstances, she was helped out and off the streets by Shannon. When Shannon is found abandoned on the side of the road, Blake wants justice for her friend. She owes her so much. She finds out that Shannon was searching for someone or something. Could it all be tied together.

Blake teams up with Detective Byron. Both need to figure out where the missing people have gone. Blake knows that Shannon had such a heart for the hopeless. They find out that young, vulnerable, fearful young teens are being targeted.

I liked the banter between Blake and Byron. Their characters evolve over the book. I hope to read more of their story. Both have issues with the world - and how dark it has become.

Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

The fragile line between life and death… Families that will never be the same…

When a tragic hit-and-run takes the life of a hardworking family man, multi-millionaire Christopher Hillington becomes the prime suspect, and the whole city of New York alights with speculation as to what happened.

But before the NYPD can establish Hillington’s guilt, he himself is brutally murdered in his own home. As he lays dying, he scrawls the name Casey Woods with his own blood, and the Forensic Instincts team is drawn into a complex mystery that has placed its president in the sights of a desperate killer.

A millionaire’s life is full of secrets and suspects. So as the baffled NYPD investigates Casey for the murder, and the body-count ratchets up, Casey herself becomes another potential victim. The FI team’s hardcore investigation has them twisting and turning through suspects and secrets, where the stakes intensify―and so does the collateral damage. As Casey and the team get closer to finding the killer, the unthinkable happens, and the life of one of FI’s own hangs in the blood-stained balance.

They say dead men tell no tales, but blood doesn’t lie. Peeling back layer after layer of deception, the team will cross whatever lines are necessary to solve the case, get justice for the families, and make their team whole again…unless the relentless killer gets to them first.

Struck Dead is written by Andrea Kane. This is the first book that I have read by this author, and it will not be my last. This book is number 10 in the Forensic Instincts series. While I have not read any of the other books in the series, I feel like I made new friends as I got to know the characters in the story.

Casey is the owner of Forensic Instincts. They are kind of like a PI firm that will investigate crimes. She has her work cut out for her - First there is a hit and run. The victim is a hardworking family man. The prime suspect is multi millionaire Christopher Hillington. Then he is found murdered. He leaves behind a cryptic note that he wrote in his blood. Suddenly, Casey herself finds herself in the suspect seat.

Casey and her team, along with Hutch and the FBI need to figure out what really happened in the hit and run, and who would want Christopher dead. They also need to find out who is behind all of this before Casey becomes the next victim.

The author does a really great job in leaving you clues, yet throwing in twists and turns that I did not suspect coming. She does a good job balancing the crime and the development of her characters. I was shocked when I got to the end. My heart was pounding so hard that I was sure that everyone in my household could hear it.

I like the author's writing style. The book flows nicely. Her characters are well developed and you feel like you are sitting on scene watching everything unfold. I hope to read more from this author in the future.
