My Thoughts MAYHEM ON MULBERRY BOOK ONE: RISE OF THE EAST is written by Vincent deFilippo. This is a new to me author and I’m so glad I’ve found his work. Who doesn’t love a mob story. This is set in the 1990 New York City. However to me it feels like the 90s were not 30 years ago.   We see two crime families with a lot at stake. Enzo, who is the heir to DeCarlo mafia family. This is an old school Italian Mob and it’s everything that you think it should be. He’s feeling torn. He knows the criminal underworld is changing.  Jen is the daughter of  a powerful Chinese crime-family patriarch (Mo-Li family.  When her Enzo cross paths they are drawn together. Jen’s brother, Li Chen, is the family’s favored son and the presumed heir. When he is murdered Enzo and his crime family are looking like the responsible party.  Jen is torn. She feels he is innocent but she’s unsure.  Things I loved about this book. The descriptions. I really felt that I was standing there watching everything unfold in front of me. The setting, the tensions, the sound of my heart pounding in my ear and the fact that I didn’t want to do anything else but get lost in this story.  This book is well written. The storyline is engaging.
