How many near misses does it take not to be a coincidence anymore?

Melanie Thompson has spent her entire adult life trying to overcome the mistakes of her youth. Just as everything is looking up, it all begins to unravel as one problem after another piles on top of each other, each with one goal in mind. Get her out of the way.

Determined to make a better life for herself and her daughter, and with the help of her father, Melanie looks at alternative ways to make her dream of owning a storefront for her bridal business come true. Complications with her ex-husband, the new business, and a threatening landlord all conspire against her, and everything seems lost when tragedy strikes not once, but twice.

What will it take for Melanie to accept the alternate path the Lord has laid out for her?

Revived Hope, the prequel to the romantic suspense Bay Town Series, paves the path for Melanie and Lacey’s move from Orange County to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and a new life in Bay Town.

About the Author

Kathleen J. Robison is an Okinawan-American. Born in Okinawa, raised in California, Florida, Mississippi, and Singapore. Her travels are the inspirational settings for her stories. She and her Pastor husband have eight adult children. Seven are married, blessing them with fourteen grandchildren and counting. The diversity of their 31 family members provide the inspiration for more lively characters than can be imagined. Her husband grew up in the streets of Los Angeles raised by a single working mom, and that life provides fodder for many of the conflicts of her characters.

Tackling difficult life’s trials with God’s strength are the central theme of Kathleen’s stories. She hopes to inspire her readers to trust God and with His strength, weather through and rise above trials and tragedies. If you like suspenseful stories with a thread of romance, you will enjoy Kathleen’s Bay Town Series

More from Kathleen

In Revived Hope, the prequel to Shattered Guilt, it’s one year earlier. Melanie Thompson races through life’s challenges while navigating the trials of being a single mother, a budding entrepreneur, and a woman of faith, all with threats of danger.

Our past doesn’t define us, as Melanie learns, but it definitely frames who we become. Thankfully, we have a gracious God who uses all of the good and the bad to bring us to a place of communion with Him…desiring His will for His glory. And ultimately, it’s always for our good.

I love my character Melanie, and I hope you will too. I’ve spent so many years getting to know her that it was fun writing this prequel. I enjoyed writing about her past and introducing you to her family in California before the move to charming fictional Bay Town in Shattered Guilt. When I wrote of Melanie’s relationship with her dad, I laughed, I cried, and I left my heart in the book…in a manner of speaking.

But Revived Hope is not all sweetness and heartache. Things get pretty testy when Melanie tackles villains head-on and sometimes all alone. Often the world encourages us to do it all, and Melanie tries. Although tragedy strikes too many times, the lessons she learns strengthen her faith and trust in the Almighty.

Lastly, Revived Hope teases with a hint of romance but sets the stage for Melanie’s love story in Shattered Guilt, Book 1, Bay Town Series. I’m excited for you to meet Melanie and her family as you root for her in all her harrowing escapades.

My Thoughts

Revived Hope is written by Kathleen J. Robinson. This is a Christian Romantic Suspense book. I loved the character of Melanie. I will admit that I have felt like her in the past. She was real feeling and had real life issues and struggles. So much so that she has spent her adult life trying to overcome. My heart went out to her as a single mom and wanting to give her daughter a better life.

She has dreams - she wants to have a storefront for her bridal business. I loved her determination. Especially when she was hit with hang outs with her ex and the landlord. I got frustrated for her! With everything happening there is an important lesson to learn here. How to make sure that you follow God’s path for our lives. Sometimes the roadblocks are for your good, not to hurt us.

This book is one not to miss. It is well written, engaging, and a real page turner. I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit blogging Program, all thoughts are my own.

Author Interview

What was one of the most surprising things you learned going through the self-publishing process?

When I first started out, I had no idea how much of my time would be spent marketing. Lucky for me...I love that part of being self-published! That isn't the case for many of the authors I work with. In fact, there are a handful of common mistakes that new authors make at the beginning of their career: doing steps out of order (i.e., not getting the book edited before illustrations), assuming they'll learn as they go, waiting to market until after the book is released, not having a strategy for release, trying to cut corners, and not researching the industry. I've seen it happen all the time which is why I try to help people through coaching, courses, and other resources. Knowledge is power!

You have published 6 books with another on the way. Do you have a favorite?

(I actually have more than that!) Rhythm Rescue was my first idea for a story, but it wasn't the first book I published because I was nervous. Scared, even. I didn't know if other people would like it and the book was so close to my heart. I feared rejection. But I pushed through, got it published, and now, it is my bestselling title. I frequently get emails and pictures of teachers using it with their music classes or parents reading it to their children. If I had to choose a favorite book, it would be that one.

What do you think makes an engaging children's book character?

There are a lot of things that can make a character engaging but in a picture book, it's pretty simple: they have to be relatable. Even if they have a problem that would never happen in real life, the readers need to be able to connect with the characters in some way. Often, emotionally. A character is the driving force behind the story and plot so even though a picture book is short, we still need to see character development happen on some level.

What made you write a book about a cookie thief?

You know, there wasn’t a particular reason. I just thought of the idea and thought it would be a lighthearted, funny story for the holidays. We all need a little bit of that!

If you could be any character in your book, who would you be?

Definitely Abuela...but I won’t spoil why ;)

My Thoughts
Gingersnap Snatcher by Vicky Weber is a children picture's book that is geared toward ages 3-7. This book is 32 pages. I read this book with my 8 and 10 year old sons. We loved this book. This is a story of 3 children who are excited for their grandmothers cookies. However, when they get there all they find is a trail of crumbs and no gingerbread! They set off to try and figure out who the gingerbread snatcher is.
The book is written in rhyme, and is easy to be read by early readers. The illustrations are beautiful and fit into the content easily. It was easy to follow along and a fun engaging story. We baked some gingerbread cookies of our own after reading this book. This is a fun holiday story that is perfect for younger children.

I received a copy of this book through the IRead blogging program, all thoughts are my own.

My Thoughts

Amish Christmas Escape is book 12 in the Amish Country Justice series that is written by Dana R. Lynn. This book is also part of the Love Inspired Suspense line. I have not read all the books in the series, and had no problem following along. All of the books in the series can be read as stand alone books. I love all the suspense that the author puts into her books.

In this story we see Christy O'Malley scared for herself and daughter after her sister is murdered. She knows she needs to protect her, so she runs to her estranged husband, Sam Burkholder. Christy has had a sad and broken past. She is also English, Sam is Amish. Sam did not know he had a daughter - I love the element of secret child woven in. Sam and Christy have had a past, and he is shocked to see that he has a daughter. He wants to make sure that he can keep them both safe. He will have his work cut out for him, since there is non stop action and suspense.

The author has done a wonderful job with describing the scenes and setting that you can close your eyes and see it unfold around you. She has created likeable, realistic characters. The story is filled with action and suspense. I love the English vs Amish love story. The author did a great job handling that.

I received a copy of this book through the JustRead book tours and the author. All thoughts are my own.
