About the Author

Author J.T. Michaels has always loved storytelling, no matter the medium. Being immersed in a different world, whether it’s through books or video games, has also been an obsession for him. Years after writing for his school magazine, he discovered he wanted to create his own worlds for readers, and his journey to fantasy writing began with Jimmy Chartron and the Lost Keystone, the first volume in his epic fantasy series.

J.T. gets inspiration for his books from everything around him, incorporating his friends as character ideas to make his stories as relatable and realistic as possible. He hopes his young readers come away from his stories having escaped from the real world for a bit and with a spark of magic that lasts long after the book is closed.

When he isn’t writing enchanting fantasy novels for teens, J.T. enjoys running and spending time outside in the sunshine and hunkering down in a bookstore or library on rainy days. He lives in British Columbia, Canada, where he likes to indulge in a great cup of coffee. Jimmy Chartron and the Lost Keystone is his debut novel, the first in a planned fantasy trilogy.

MY THOUGHTS

Jimmy Chartron and the Lost Keystone is a middle grade book that is written by J.T. Michaels. The book is recommended for ages 9 and up. I chose to read this book with my 11 and 9 year old son. My 9 year old is not the hugest fan of reading, but he was excited to sit down every night. 

They loved this book because it is full of adventure. I hope to read the next book in the series. Jimmy is 16 and has worked really hard to get into Navale Academy of Eagleon. He has big dreams of becoming an electrician. Once he arrives he finds a secret in a statue from a Great War hero, Tessa Marlise. Imagine Tessa's surprise when she wakes up in the body of  16 year old Jimmy. The last thing that Tessa had remembered was protecting the Keystone. They work together, Tessa takes the lead and go on a fun adventure. 

The book was well written and would appeal to middle grade readers. The kids and I enjoyed it. Thank you to the author, publisher and Children's book review for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

About the Author

Kathleen J. Robison is an Okinawan-American, born in Okinawa, and raised in California, Florida, Mississippi, and Singapore. Her travels and her family are the sources of her inspiration for her books. Kathleen and her Pastor husband have eight adult children. Seven are married, blessing them with eighteen grandchildren and counting. Her ethnically diverse background extends to her family of currently thirty-five personalities which provide many opportunities to share God’s amazing love amidst the challenges of real life.

I love writing inspirational romantic suspense featuring heroic women. In Restored Grace, Carol Scape embodies my efforts. She’s impulsive, she’s wild, she’s crazy…and she’s back. With a newfound faith in Christ, she tackles the bad guy with a style all her own.

 

The main character in Restored Grace is a favorite of mine. In fact, I brought her back from Book One because my Library Critique Group loved her so much. When I read a chapter from Shattered Guilt, where Carol plays a minor role, the Branch Manager Librarian laughed and quipped, “I know women just like her, and you nailed her perfectly!”

 

Perhaps in some ways, I secretly (I guess it’s not a secret now) wish I was her. Impulsive, the life of the party, indifferent to what people think about her, and confident in her skin. Carol is 50ish, pleasantly curvy, a boho-chic hippie with long wavy, graying, red hair that constantly tangles in her arms, and others because she moves so quickly. She wears lots of loud, jingly jewelry, and always puts on her prettiest face (with light makeup but tempted to use a heavy hand). And I love her fashion style. Colorful swirling, tiered skirts, cowboy boots, peasant tops, and fringed shawls. If I was taller, I’d love to carry that off, so I let my alter ego, Carol Scape do it for me.

 

Yet, in some ways, women like her used to drive me crazy. They walk into a room, and in minutes their larger-than-life personalities can’t help but draw attention. But I’m so thankful the Lord has humbled me, and if someone drives me crazy … I look at myself and see what I need to work on. Still, call it envy, expectations, or too much energy, but people like her exist, don’t they? And we must admit, they’re a lot of fun. Are you a Carol, or do you know a Carol? Either way, we’re called to love everyone. And the most important thing is caring about all people enough to be concerned for their eternity. I don’t mean judging, but sharing, encouraging, and pointing them to Jesus, whoever they may be and wherever they are in their walk.

 

Three particular things that I hope you’ll identify in the new Carol are her struggle with God’s grace, her selfless desire to help others, and her discovered confidence in Christ. The beauty of writing inspirational romantic suspense is bringing to life how real people, with real problems, struggle with their faith just like us, as we trust that the victory belongs to the Lord.

 

I hope you enjoy reading Restored Grace, and I hope you’re encouraged and inspired to receive and extend the precious grace of our Savior, Jesus, to all those whom God puts in your path…much like Carol.

My Thoughtd

Restored Grace is written by Kathleen J. Robison. This is book two in the Bay Town series. I have read both and while they can be read as a stand alone you’ll want to read both. This book does touch on sensitive subjects. These subjects are: domestic abuse, human trafficking and intimacy before marriage. This being said the author makes sure that she writes the story of God’s grace, forgiveness and redemption into her story. 

Carol feels that while she’s made anew with Christ. Sometimes the weight of her past comes crashing down. Carol didn’t make the smartest decisions when it came to men. She still feels like damaged goods. We find her at a drug store in Pascagoula, Mississippi. She sees a frightened girl. Since the small town of Bay Town is still reeling a year later after a human trafficking ring was uncovered, Carol senses the girl is in a dire situation. 

Carol is free spirited and determined. She has a big heart and wants to help everyone. However her stubbornness gets in the way. Carol goes off on her own determined to try and rescue the girl. Along with running her own vintage second hand store, staying active in her church and assisting former trafficking victim, Virginia. 

There’s lots of secondary characters. We see previous characters from the first story. It was nice to see a continuation in  their lives.

Watching this story unfold was with great anticipation. I didn’t want the story to end. It’s also filled with action and suspense. The author did such a great job creating this story. 

The characters are well written and flawed. They have dark pasts. They make mistakes. I find that these characters in books are the best to read. The story flows nicely.

MY THOUGHTS

A Search for Redemption is book three in the Secrets of Bliss Valley Series. The series is written by Jo Ann Brown. I have read all the books in the series, but they can also be read as stand alone books. This book is a  Love Inspired Trade Book. I love that they have expanded the stories and you really feel that you get to know the characters on a deeper level. 

This story brings us back to Bliss Valley. Grace is working in a tourist location. Her boss, Tiffany is not great to work for. She takes a lot of her frustration out on Grace. Grace feels like she is put in the middle when it comes to the quilters getting paid. Grace was born late in her parents lives. She is not married and has been the sole provider for her parents for a long time. 

Joel Beachy is back in Bliss Valley after being released from jail. He hurt a lot of people in his youth and he is not sure that he will be welcomed back. He hopes to find a job at the construction site near Bliss Valley. I felt bad for Joel. He is a broken man that feels like he does not belong anywhere because of his pasts. 

I loved the story of redemption. Joel finds friends where he never thought he would. The author has woven so many issues that one may face into this book. This would include: Running from our pasts, family issues, work issues and so much more. I really enjoyed this story. This is my favorite book in teh series.
