More from Jill

I have a confession. I own a collection of journals. A huge collection. At last count, there were sixty-two beautifully bound books, some with plain covers, others with verses or artistic designs. You could say I’m a hoarder, but I find comfort in knowing I have an unlimited number of blank pages to record my hopes, dreams and prayers. That’s exactly what I did on June 22, 2008. On that day, I wrote the following:

I want to be a writer, not just a writer who keeps a journal or casually writes stories. I want to be a published writer. Lately, I’ve become obsessed with reading author’s websites, their bios, how they got started writing and how difficult or easy it was for them to get published. This is what I want to do with my life. This is what I will do. I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. God has put this dream in my heart and now I will pursue this dream.

Fast forward to March 31, 2015. I made a last-minute decision to enter Harlequin Love Inspired Blurb to Book Contest. I submitted a one sentence blurb, along with one page of the first and only book I’d ever written.

On April 13, 2015, I was stunned to learn I had advanced in the contest. I then submitted a synopsis and the first three chapters.

On May 15th, I was notified I had moved on in the contest. I was required to submit the entire manuscript. At that time, the book was merely a rough draft, so a lot of rewriting was required before my deadline.

On August 17, 2015, I received a call that forever changed my life. While working my day job, my cell phone rang—it was New York calling. An editor from Harlequin had called to offer me a contract on the first book I’d ever written. My first book Second Chance Romance was released on March 1, 2017.

Five published books later, I still fill my journals with my dreams and prayers.

My Thoughts

by Jill Weatherholt is part of the Love Inspired series. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I love the cover of this book. The art department did such a great job drawing you in. In this story, we see Janie  who is recently divorced. Her ex husband was always tearing her down. Janie and her daughter, Riley move back to their hometown. Janie has been very damaged from her previous marriage. Drew  who is a widower has withdrawn himself. Drew and Janie have a past. The death of Mary Applegate who leaves Janie  leaves her an inheritance of land and house. But all this comes with a catch. Janie and Drew have to get the camp up and running.... together. Can they heal from the past and pull it off.
The author has created some realistic characters. She writes how both of the main characters has some issues to heal from. I love how real feeling the story felt. I always enjoy reading anything that comes from the Love Inspired Series.

I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit Blogging program. All thoughts are my own,.

More from the Something Borrowed Authors

Dear Readers,

Thank you for stopping by the Celebrate Lit blog tour of Something Borrowed. Before we share our excitement for the collection, we’d like to give a brief history of how it came to be.

Last year, the five of us crafted the Once Upon a Christmas collection, but Teresa needed to step down and we were blessed to have Angela Ruth Strong join us in her stead. Early this year, we rejoiced as Teresa was able to resume her place, and then our hearts broke as we learned of Angela’s breast cancer battle. Through all life has thrown our way, we’ve formed a beautiful friendship and have plans to write more collections together!

In January, we decided on a Christmas weddings theme, but we wanted it to be different and unique. Ideas sprang to life and six college roommates emerged, each from a different walk of life but bound by friendship. And then, we found ourselves missing our sixth. With prayers and a blessing over Angela’s health and a writing endeavor that’s been a dream for years (read her story on Facebook!), we found a way to include her in the form of a sixth roommate who no longer needed a love story.

Enter Ruth Ann. Married right out of college, she’s been busy cranking out babies like nobody’s business. And when the next bride, Jaycee’s character Hanady, brings them together for a girls’ reunion weekend, it’s Ruth Ann who produces the perfect something borrowed for this circle of friends.

Hanady’s planning a wedding to the wrong groom—just ask Keenan, the injured best friend who’s loved her for years. Wheelchair-bound Leilah doubts she’ll wear the tiara, but her online gaming friend might be too wonderful to resist. Chahna “Ana” Kapoor just knows she’s going to wear the tiara, so she books her dream venue—she just needs her boyfriend to propose and her parents to tone down the drama. After being engaged to Noah for years, Cate is more than ready for the tiara to be hers, but not-so-merry mishaps the week of the wedding threaten a happily ever after. And finally, having watched all of her friends marry and start their families, when Lydia’s ex shows up on her doorstep with an outrageous proposal, she finds it hard to believe her turn might finally have come.

We are so happy to present to you this collection of five interconnected stories where friendship and faith take center stage. For some, it’s new love. For others, it’s finally sealing an old one. Each tale is unique and yet together they weave one overarching message of love, joy, hope, and peace through the Christmas season.

As you read these stories, we pray they touch your heart. We pray they entertain you and maybe even make you laugh a time or two. And lastly, we pray the Christmas truths bless you this holiday season.

Blessings,

Jaycee, Toni, Mikal, Teresa, and Andrea

My Thoughts

One of the best thing about being a book blogger is finding new authors to read.  "Something Borrowed" is collection of 5 Novellas by 5 amazing authors. The only author that I have read prior to this was Toni Shiloh. The other authors were new to me. I enjoyed EVERY single one of these stories. I love when I can read collections like this. All the stories are unique but tied together by a central theme. We see 5 friends that you will feel like are your friends as you read about their relationships and wedding. I cannot pick one as a strong favorite. They were all really good.

I will say that the one that tugged at my emotions was Toni Shiloh's story - "All the Moore". When you meet Leilah's  and Reggie your heart will melt. Reggie was such a good match for her. Leilah has been confined to a wheelchair and never thought that anyone could look past her disability. (spoiler alert --- have Kleenex handy).

Always Been Yours by Jaycee Weaver was a fun one to read. I love the chemistry between Keenan and Hanady. He treats her like a queen. (Like my husband does :)) This is the first story of the collection and you get the background on the friends. I had not read this author before - but I did browse through some of titles on Goodreads and will definitely read her in the future.

A Holly, Bolly Christmas by Mikal Dawn - this is another new author for me. Maguire and Anna. Sigh. My heart was beating very fast during this tory. They had an adventurous journey to the alter. It seemed like whatever could go wrong, did. Her parents did not want her to be with him and she wanted the perfect venue.

Somehow, This Christmas by Teresa Tysinger was an uplifting mood lifter of a story. Cate, the bride as many brides do gets frustrated on her journey. Cate is also a wedding planner - so she knows what to do - but when it comes to her own wedding. I can't imagine making sure client's weddings are perfect and all that they have dreamt on - only to run into roadblocks on your own.

Finally, A Promise So Sweet by Andrea Boyd. This is another new author. This story was one all about second chances. In Andrea's story - a former high school sweetheart reenters Lydia's life. She thought she missed out in the past. She had not heard from him - and he shows back up proposing.

All of the stories in this collection are heartwarming with a strong faith element. It is the perfect Christmas collection for this chaotic year.

I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit blogging program - all thoughts are my own.

Book Review and Giveaway - Snuffed Out Author: Barbara Cornthwaite On Tour with Celebrate Lit

About the Book

Book: Snuffed Out

Author: Barbara Cornthwaite

Genre: Christian cozy mystery

Release Date: July 24, 2020

Picnics can be murder… scenes.

What was supposed to be a romantic picnic at “their spot” turns criminal when Katrina and Todd stumble—almost literally—over a body.

What’s the college chef doing under a bush up in the mountains? Other than being dead, that is.

Who killed him? Why?

All clues point to people who Katrina is certain didn’t do it. Especially the one who ends up dead himself.

Uh, oh.

Thanks to a slow-burning romantic relationship that can’t seem to get past chapter one, and a determination to save her friend from false arrest, Katrina joins Todd again as they riddle out bizarre clues, weed through unlikely suspects, and learn to communicate on a more personal level.

What do you get when you combine literary humor, sweet romance, and a practical helping of faith? A cozy mystery that’ll keep you guessing. Barbara Cornthwaite’s second Wilkester Mystery has everything you want for a cozy read.

Snag Snuffed Out today.

About the Author

Barbara Cornthwaite lives in the middle of Ireland with her husband and children. She taught college English before “retiring” to do something she loves far more; her days are now filled with homeschooling her six children, trying to keep the house tidy (a losing battle), and trying to stay warm in the damp Irish climate (also a losing battle). She is surrounded by medieval castles, picturesque flocks of sheep, and ancient stone monuments. These things are unappreciated by her children, who are more impressed by traffic jams, skyscrapers, and hot weather.

Teaser for Snuffed Out

Todd closed the folder with the Franklin case paperwork in it and laid it on top of the stack of folders waiting to be filed. He almost reached for the Delaney case notes again but resisted the impulse. There was no new information in there, and he’d gone over everything a dozen times in the last few days. He had promised Katrina he wouldn’t give up, but without any new leads to pursue, there wasn’t much he could do.

He shook his head, impatient with himself. He’d been doing so well at putting her out of his mind—hadn’t thought of her all day until this moment. Now he’d probably be struggling for the rest of the day.

John Ortega poked his head into Todd’s office.

“Hey, we just got a call from the librarian at Wilkester College about the theft of a manuscript. The chief said either one of us could go, but I thought you might like to take it.”

“Why?”

“Oh, come on,” said John. “You think I’m blind and deaf?”

“It’s no use. Nothing’s going to happen between Dr. Peters and me.”

John leaned up against the door frame and grinned at him. “’Dr. Peters,’ huh? She was ‘Katrina’ for weeks.”

“Well, that was before. Now that I know a relationship isn’t possible, I need to keep my distance.”

“She turned you down?”

“I didn’t ask, but trust me, I know what I’m talking about.”

“Hmm,” John said. “You don’t usually give up on things so easily. Well, do you mind handling this anyway? I’ve got that other robbery case to deal with, and I’m supposed to be interviewing that guy from Tacoma in a couple hours.” Todd hesitated and John added, “She’s an adjunct professor, right? She’s probably not even on campus now, and she certainly won’t be in the library.”

“Oh, okay.” Todd sighed. He pushed back his chair and stood up.

“’Attaboy. Thanks for taking the call.” John turned to go and then looked back. “It will get easier, you know.”

“I know.” As long as I don’t see her again.

My Thoughts

Snuffed out is Book 2 in the Wilkester series. I have read book one - and you can see my review HERE. Reading the books in order is recommended . This story picks up not too long after the last book ends. We get to see our cast of characters again. We see Katrina and Todd and their relationship. It was fun to watch them navigate their new relationship. Katrina and Todd find themselves enjoying a nice picnic - and they stumble across a dead body. The mystery was really interesting.  I thought I had it figured out - but boom the author threw some different bread crumbs and shook things up. I also love how the author was very knowledgeable about the Regency Era. I loved all the historical facts that were in it. The author also did a great job in dropping in the Christian themes. I wish there were going to be more - I have been enjoying this series

I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit blogging program - all thoughts are my own.
